Volunteer Positions and descriptions
Set Up
Prepare the pool area for the swim meets. Includes putting in lane lines, hanging banners, and general set up as directed.
Timers
Time swimmers using digital stop watches and record on the time sheet. There are three timers per lane, so a large numbers of timers are required for each meet.
Head Timer
This position coordinates the timers from both teams. Insures that all lanes are filled with the proper number of timers. At home meets will conduct a meeting in the morning with both teams. The head timer also starts back-up stopwatches. This position is best suited for someone with ample timing experience.
Scorers
Check time sheets for accuracy and note disqualifications. This positions requires basic math skills but is not difficult.
Head Scorer
This position validates records, resolves questions regarding DQs, validates scoring and certifies official meet results. This positions needs to be filled by someone with sufficient scoring experience.
Concessions
Prepare orders and/or collect money. The last shift of the day helps clean the refreshment area. Home meets only.
Ready Area
Help arrange, organize and prepare children for races by arranging them appropriately by race, heat and lane. Provide missing swimmer names to the announcer for call out.
Runners
Workers are responsible for collecting lane sheets and DQ slips from the timers and deliver them to the scorers. They also provide water to officials, coaches, timers and other volunteers throughout the course of the meet, and fill water coolers as required.
Take Down
Help clean up pool area after home meets. Duties included putting away lane ropes, taking down banners, taking trash to dumpster, and general take down of equipment as directed.
